A non-demonizable, stress mishandling rundown of all the mostly peaceful, yet sometimes violent and "unacceptable" events in and around Chicago this past weekend.
I love the commenters here, and the moderators. Chicagoland was my childhood home. Before they all went woke and kneeling, I was a Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls, Bears fan.
I loved going to Facets multimedia. I took the Niles Free Buses to the library as a child. I loved the pizzarias, and the combination of tough guy personna coupled with World Class Universities and Medical Centers. I was on the Waiting List for Northwestern University Medical School's 6 year med program in high school, and was accepted early decision to U of Illinois School of Medicine out of Texas Christian undergrad (and University of Texas Medical Branch SOM).
I chose UTMB. It turned out to be one of the better decisions of my life, on the whole.
My unconscious at age 21 knew why I was "turning away." At almost 61, with an awesome Medical Job in New Mexico and my retirement home in Texas (long term contract work as an MD does this to you), and what has happened to my unfortunate home over the years, it is very clear now what I was processing.
Similarly, I did my Psychiatry residency program at UCLA Olive View. On June 18th, 1993, I graduated from the program. On July 4th, I met my future wife in small town Alabama. On the 12th, I started my practice.
My homes are in small town New Mexico and small town Texas, 30 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico in the latter case, where I plan to retire, God Willing. It is a very good place to live (so is small town Northern Alabama).
I pray for the safety of the men and women of the Chicago Police and Fire Departments.
Go to Sperling's Best Places and look up: Brownsville, McAllen, and Harlingen, all in Texas. Compare and contrast to Chicago. You will be pleasantly surprised. Then, get hired by the local PDs, change your voter registration to GOP, and enjoy your new home. Don't bring your snow blower. Sell it before you go.
Understand: I have nothing but respect and praise for the Rank and File of the CPD. They help protect a hostile citizenry in a brutal city.
May I suggest, strongly, looking at Hidalgo and Cameron Counties in Texas? Palm trees, Ocean access, deep sea fishing, Laguna Madre fishing, laid back atmosphere, inexpensive cost of living, and police hiring.
I was born in Chicago, raised in Niles, IL. I left for college in Texas in 1980. Except for summer vacations during college and after the first year of medical school, I have never been back except to visit my parents, and that not for 8 years. Don't miss it, except the hot dogs and pizza.
I graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago and LOVED the city! Moved here to Texas in the 90's for business reasons figuring I would move back again someday. You couldn't pay me enough to even visit that shithole much less move back. It's a crime what the elected officials have allowed to happen.
I think chicago still lags behind baltimore in murders, but with a strong push they can take the lead and win. Go chicago!!! You can do it!

Democrats have ruined that city.

Even the Bears got fed up and are moving to the suburbs!
