A Festivus Miracle
While we were airing our grievances with all of youse, it would seem as others were doing the same with words instead of lead. Reports of a 10 year old girl shooting herself in the hand (assuming during the Feats of Strength) was all that was reported as of daybreak Christmas Eve.
Hmm… we know better as we’ve learned over the years to not trust what the CPD says through MINs (Major Incident Notifications) and in turn the Corporate Media copies and pastes into their “stories”. So we spent some time listening to the dulcet tones of scanner traffic and perusing the ol’ stand by Twitter accounts and lo and behold we found not one, but two unreported homicides.
The Lawndale incident was finally acknowledged by the CPD and posted on Monday afternoon and THEN it became a news story shortly thereafter. The Rutherford incident didn’t make it to MINs until this morning and THEN the stories were published. Strange how there’s no story until the narrative is released. 🤔 One would think the Rutherford incident would be of particular interest to some since it occured in a “good” neighborhood populated with city worker types where very little happens. But then again, to chase down the details requires work and it’s much easier to simply wait for the official narrative then copy, paste and publish the story.
Grand Theft Fail
Early on Christmas Eve in the Little Italy neighborhood, an ex-con couldn’t wait until Christmas morning for a Jeep to show up under the tree, so instead he decided to take an off-duty’s Jeep instead:
Prosecutors have charged a man with attempted murder for allegedly exchanging gunfire with an off-duty Chicago police officer after stealing the cop’s car from a Near West Side gas station on Christmas Eve. Mayco Mata, 41, was ordered held without bail by Judge Charles Beach.
The officer pulled his 2018 Jeep Cherokee into the service station at Roosevelt Road and Ashland Avenue to put oil in the engine around 2:05 a.m. Saturday. After asking the off-duty cop for directions, Mata slid into the Jeep’s driver’s seat and drove away with the SUV, which still had its hood raised, prosecutor Jose Villarreal said.
Mata didn’t get far. He crashed the stolen Jeep into a fire hydrant, got out, drew a 40-caliber handgun from his waistband, and fired at the off-duty officer, according to Villarreal. The officer pulled out his own 45-caliber gun and returned fire.
No injuries were reported. (full story)
Unfortunately, since the off-duty officer missed, Mr. Mata will be back on the streets soon enough to give it another go. Pro tip: put the hood down before driving away.
Christmas in Beverly
Speaking of “good” neighborhoods where not much happens, especially of the homicidal variety, like Montclare above Beverly is another such place. Beverly didn’t record a homicide in 2016 - 2017 & 2019 - 2021.
Late on Christmas, scanner traffic made it sound as if a domestic incident turned deadly. This incident along with another earlier in the year puts sleepy Beverly at two homicides for 2022, matching its 2018’s total. For comparison purposes, Garfield Park has posted 366 homicides for the same 2016-today period.
Clown City Update 🤡
Not a day goes by without some (formerly) Magnificent Mile shop getting raided and Christmas day is no exception.
The break-in occurred around 4:39 a.m. at Bottega Veneta Chicago, 800 North Michigan. The high-end clothing and accessories retailer, located directly behind the historic Water Tower, has been a frequent target of shoplifting mob raiders. Now, a burglary team has raided the shop.
Chicago police said a white van pulled up near the store, and three offenders got out. They broke a pane of glass near the store’s front entrance and went inside, a CPD spokesperson said.
Once inside, the group gathered merchandise, returned to the van, and fled the scene, police said. (full story)
Slowly but surely, these high end shops go dark leaving the Mag Mile more Extended Magazine Mile than Magnificent Mile. Of course, we all know it’s the greedy shop owners with their high priced wares who are to blame. tHeY hAvE InSurANcE!!
Last Chance for Santa Chalkie
Santa Chalkie is going back into the Rubbermaid and up into the garage rafters later this week. If you have your eye on one, ShopJackass has Santa Chalkie as well as a bunch of crap you don’t need, but probably want, maybe.
Thanks to @Purplehip312 on Twitter for crafting such a pretty header image.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading. Our goal is to push out one long form post a week in addition to our regular stats focused posts. Thanks and remember “We don't want nobody nobody sent”.
