Mostly Peaceful Weekend #50
A round-up and rundown of all the mostly peaceful, yet often violent events in and around Chicago this weekend from 12pm Friday, Dec 9th – 6am Monday, Dec 12th.
After posting 11 homicides in less than 30hrs on Tuesday and Wednesday this past week, less favorable conditions helped tap the brakes a bit as the grind towards 700 homicides is now just a day or so away.

The Trend Is Your Friend
Our previous Stack highlighted the increase in lead poisoning amongst those making poor life choices at the hands of concealed carry license holders. Early Saturday witnessed the poor life choice trend continue with two jagoffs take some rounds in exchange for trying to steal a car.
The victim was walking to his car from the Cambria Hotel, 32 West Randolph, when someone fired shots at him from a red SUV, according to Chicago police. He returned fire, and the SUV sped away. Meanwhile, another offender who was inside the victim’s parked car got out and ran from the scene. Officers said the offenders left a tool and a phone near the victim’s car.
… a 24-year-old man walked into Lurie Children’s Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right buttock, officers said. He was transferred to Northwestern. (full story)
The ass not only took one in the ass, but he hobbled into the children’s hospital instead of the adult hospital across the street. Wonder if the transfer included an expensive, taxpayer funded ambulance ride around the block.
Taser Proof
Seeing this rise in concealed carry-related shootings, the CPD picked up their pace by shooting two individuals in the past week with the latest coming on Saturday evening, although at the expense of getting stabbed in the shoulder when their Taser failed to produce the desired results.
Last we heard was that the officer was in serious but stable condition while the Taser-proof assailant was in critical condition.
We’ll assume this was a rhetorical question on behalf of the Contrarian seeing as this mayor doesn’t do injured officer hospital visits much less provide a positive CPD-directed comment or two.
Ain’t No Party Like a Portage Park “Birthday Party”
Painfully scrolling through the Mayor’s two Twitter accounts, in addition to zero mentions of the above police shooting, there were also zero mentions of this particular mass shooting. As such we have to infer she is not “sick of this shit”. Shit in this case being an execution style murder of three individuals at a bar in the Portage Park neighborhood (not a place known for triple homicides or mass shootings).
An argument that started in a bar and lounge in the Portage Park neighborhood spilled out onto the street and someone opened fire, killing three and leaving a fourth in critical condition, authorities said.
The shooting happened just before 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of the 5500 block of W. School Street and 3300 block of N. Central Avenue in the Portage Park neighborhood on the city's northwest side.
Police said a verbal argument that started in Vera Lounge on N. Central Avenue turned into a physical fight outside and in the street. At some point during the melee, a currently unknown man fired shots into the group he was ostensibly fighting with, resulting in the loss of life. The man reportedly fled in a dark-colored older model SUV. (full story)
Word is the CPD has a good idea of who did the shooting and is actively attempting to track them down. Then it’ll be on Kim Foxx to do her least, as usual.
Enough With The Robble! Robble!
The date of the tweet is Saturday, yet unfortunately, these robbery crews seem to have the run of the place aside from the occasional uppity citizen who ventilaties one or two of them at a time.
At least 11 more armed robberies and carjackings were reported during two sprees on Sunday afternoon and early Monday across the near west and north sides of Chicago, according to Chicago police reports.
More than 76 similar armed robberies have been reported in sprees that have popped up almost daily in the same areas since December 2. But the Chicago Police Department seems unable to end the crime wave, even after a concealed carry holder put one of the robbery crews out of commission.
Our bet is that Officers Winter and Snowfall will do more to slow this trend than any plan CPD/City Hall leadership will come up with here.
