Deadly Start to the Weekend
We've always started our weekend clock at noon (vs 6pm for CPD), and typically this time of year not much happens, especially before 3pm. However, this Friday recorded all the weekend's homicides before the CPD's clock even started ticking.
First up, at 1:50 pm mere blocks from the United Center an incident that would eventually turn into a double homicide.
A 36-year-old man was behind the wheel of a car when he and a 29-year-old woman riding with him were each struck by gunfire just before 2 p.m. in the 1900 block of West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago police said.
The vehicle then crashed into a tree in that same block.
Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, but later died, police said. The man was identified as Verdail Odom, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Not even an hour later and a couple of miles away…
Two boys, 14 and 15 years old, were killed and two other teens were wounded in a shooting outside Benito Juarez High School on Friday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of South Laflin Street just as classes were starting to be dismissed for the day at the West Side school, officials said.
Brandon Perez, 15, and Nathan Billegas, 14, were pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. Both suffered gunshot wounds to the head, according to Chicago police.
Two other teens, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, were in good condition at the hospital, officials said. The boy was struck in the thigh and shoulder; the girl suffered a graze wound, police said.
A radio dispatch to officers said a suspect in a black mask, black hoodie and black North Face jacket was seen running west on Cermak Road and north on Ashland Avenue. (full story)
To wit…
Official pandering and nonsense appeared on the scene roughly 22 hours after the event. Given the ravages of her latest bout of the Covaids (see below), we’ll cut her some slack.
After all, local crime stories take time to process the facts whereas when it comes to commenting on national stories, 10 hours is plenty of time to know everything there is to know and to be “sick of this shit”.
Finally, as if enough teenagers weren’t shot in the neighborhood already Friday afternoon…
Kimberly Campbell, 16, and a 15-year-old boy were inside a residence in the 100 block of North Oakley Boulevard just before 6 p.m. when someone outside shot at them, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Campbell suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed initially in critical condition but later died due to her injuries.
The boy suffered a graze wound and was taken to the same hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said. (full story)
In all three teens were killed and three others were wounded in three hours Friday afternoon, before the official weekend tally had even begun, meaning CPD recorded zero homicides (technically they count murders) for the weekend. Success!
Amazon Prime Hits
It’s true. Amazon has everything you could possibly want or need, including a hit man.
Wonder what their return policy is on botched hits?
Clown City Update 🤡
Assuming you’re not a double N95 wearing hypochondriac from the North Side and you stopped paying attention to the Covaids long ago, just so you know, the mayor tested positive again despite the Yahtzee of fully vaxxed, super boosted, randomly testing, asymptomatic, occasional mask wearing, maybe a little social distancing, reminding people to get vaxxed and a shit ton of virtue signaling.
Reads a lot like a copy and paste job from her original go around back in January.
Even WGN couldn’t generate more than a few sentences of caring about this crap:
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tested positive for COVID-19, she announced Friday.
She said she is not experiencing any symptoms, which she is attributing to being vaccinated and “fully boosted.”
Lightfoot said she will continue to isolate and work from home while following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“This is a reminder to get vaccinated and boosted this holiday season to keep you and your loved ones healthy and safe,” she said.
Asymptomatic infections are a throwback to the good ol’ hysteria filled days where just a glance from an unknown carrier would strike down grandma faster than Medusa in Clash of the Titans (1981 version), but sorry, they do not count. No symptoms, no diseased state, no. one. cares.
Asymptomatic or not, if she’s popping Paxlovid like a gangbanger with Glock and a switch, maybe she’ll rebound by New Years for a third (or would it be second) go around, but if not, we expect a 3rd such copy and pasted tweet by either late spring or early fall of 2023. (Prop bet - pops a ‘positive’ test around debate time, +1000.)
Too Late For Xmas, How About New Years?
Be the smartest ass at your New Years Eve party. ShopJackass has a bunch of crap for that.
