Mostly Peaceful Weekend #4
A round-up and rundown of all the mostly peaceful, yet sometimes violent events in and around Chicago this past weekend from 12pm Friday, Jan 27th – 6am Monday, Jan 30th.
The time to elect new clowns for the circus is just a month away. Shit will only get stupider, more absurd and likely more peaceful from here on out.

Clown City Update 🤡
Our meme master colleague Purplehip312 sent us just the video and we thought they moved on to doing parody videos. Well, it's real as it comes directly from the source.
Our first thought immediately went to this scene from the first Batman movie, although the Joker is much better dressed.
Of course, one usually has to go overseas to get the full story.
Kia No Go
Last year carjackings were on pace to set another yearly recorded when the rate fell off during the fall to the point where 2022 finished slightly lower than 2021, hence “crime is down!” The most likely reason for the dropoff in carjackings wasn’t David Brown’s Super Fantastic Anti-Carjack-O-Rahm-A, rather it was the rapid rise in motor vehicle theft, specifically Kias and Hyundias.
Kias and Hyundais each had about 3,500 car thefts, accounting for nearly 38% of all car thefts in the city. So many Kias were stolen in Chicago, that they account for about 10% of the city's 36,300 registered Kias and about 7% of the city's 53,500 Hyundais, according to data from the Illinois Secretary of State. Shockingly, insurance companies have decided it’s not worth the hassle.
On Friday, CWB Chicago tried to get insurance for affected Kia models in Lakeview, the Loop, and Wicker Park, but Progressive’s online quote service said no.
“We are unable to offer you a policy at this time due to high theft rates in your geographic location,” the Progressive site said after each attempt. Progressive suggested trying other carriers, including Hugo Insurance and Allstate. (full story)
We’re moving from high prices to unavailable at any price.
10 Years of Chalkie
If you missed our tenth-anniversary post, we're not only disappointed in you but we’d also like to reiterate that if it wasn't for your support we would have folded nine and half years ago. If a Chalkie tee or some other piece of useless crap is on your wishlist, please take 10% off your order with the code 10YEAR through the end of the month.
Thanks to @Purplehip312 on Twitter for crafting such a pretty header image.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading. Our goal is to push out one long form post a week in addition to our regular stats focused posts. Thanks and remember “We don't want nobody nobody sent”.
In Chicago peace refers to caliber
So, does the Mayors detail stay the same with a change in mayor? Or does the new mayor pick their own crew?
