Clown City Update 🤡
If you, like most, decided not to sit through the mayoral debate last week, you may have missed another out-of-touch statement from the current, and most likely soon-to-be former, mayor.
In short, street vendors around the city, but specifically in Little Village for this story have seen an “uptick” (an analytical CPD term) in robberies. As Channel 7 reports:
Volunteers are stepping up in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood to watch out for street vendors after an increase in robberies.
"Those are easy targets. They don't have a voice, but they do have us and we are going to make these people know they have people that protects them," said Angel Valdes, Brown Beret volunteer.
Valdes is a machine operator by day and took a vacation Wednesday to patrol 26th Street early this morning as a Brown Beret, an organization he describes as an activist group to serve and protect the community. He is also a Little Village resident.
"We need a lot of volunteers until the city and mayor come up with a plan to do a permanent protection for," he said. (full story)
Well Angel, the mayor does have a plan. A plan that was conceived when not tweeting about -ista-phobic national issues - stop selling tamales, don’t get robbed. Brilliant! Ok, that’s not technically it, but may as well be.
Tamale vendors will be thrilled to know that all they have to do to not be robbed is set up that PayPal or Venmo account and simply add 3.5% + $0.49 to every transaction. Property crime could be eliminated if we just got rid of property! Homicides could be eliminated with if just got rid of peo… wait a minute…
Lightfoot-esque
Brandon, who is running for mayor, appears to be taking a page out of Lori’s comment-on-every-national-story-no-matter-the-relevance playbook.
Admittedly, we had to look up AAPI as we're not up to speed on the latest woke abbreviations, AAPI = Asian American Pacific Islander. This tweet saw little action, but if Brandon wins, which is possible, and his audience grows, we should expect more Lightfoot-like national level ista-phobe baiting tweets.
10 Years of Chalkie
We're coming up on our tenth anniversary. More on that later this week, but it's hard to believe we've wasted ten years tracking this completely unnecessary bullshit. If it wasn't for your support we would have folded nine and half years ago. As a thank you, please take 10% off your order of useless crap with the code 10YEAR.
Thanks to @Purplehip312 on Twitter for crafting such a pretty header image.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading. Our goal is to push out one long form post a week in addition to our regular stats focused posts. Thanks and remember “We don't want nobody nobody sent”.
